A Stydy for the changes of Blood Sugar Level during Induction of General Anesthesia

Abstract
The effects of endotracheal intubation on blood sugar level were studied in 42 adult patients. Patients were chosen at the age between 25 and 56 with ASA physical status Class 1.
Induction of anesthesia was performed with different three methods and blood sugar level was measured in each case at 1 minute before induction of anesthesia add each 1, 3, 5, 7, 10 minutes after endotracheal intubation and surgical incision with Glucoscot GT-4310 eyetome method.
The following results were obtained.
The blood sugar level at 1,3 mins after endotracheal intubation increased in contrast with control value significantly in the group of patients who were performed endotracheal intubation with i.v. administration of thiopental sodium 5 mgKg^(-1) and succinylcholine 1 mgKg^(-1). It is also increased at 3 mins. after endotracheal intubation in the group of thiopental sodium 5 mgKg^(-l), pancuronium 1 mgKg^(-1) i.v. administration and thereafter inhaled halothane 5-10 mins. with mask to decrease systolic blood pressure to the level of two-third of control before endotracheal intubation.
In the group of given morphine 20mg and diszepam l0mg for induction of anesthesia before endotracheal intubation it is increased at 1.3 mins. after endotracheal intubation but not significant.
